Otoplasty is a cosmetic surgery procedure employed to adjust the appearance or dimensions of the ear. The most frequently performed form of otoplasty is often referred to as “ear pinning” Dr B Yazdanfar. When the ears are sticking out too great a distance from the head “ear pinning” is performed to make them sit nearer to the head. The conventional wisdom is that the younger a patient is the better. Aslong as the ears are fully grown the procedure can be accomplished. Ordinarily, the ears have grown as much as they are going to by age four. The cartilage of childrens’ ears is more malleable and a superior result is achieved with the procedure. Otoplasty is implemented on older patients as well, but it is more difficult to mold the cartilage in more mature patients’ ears.
Dr Behnaz says “Ear pinning” is commonly completed using a local anesthetic with sedation. The surgeon makes an incision in the fold behind the ear. The surgeon then excise skin and cartilage to create the desired effect and close the incisions with stitches. Routinely usual activities can be approximately a week when the sutures can be taken out by Dr Yazdanfar, and special care must be taken for the space of approximately a month while healing continues.
