Facial implants are prosthetic appliances introduced underneath the soft tissue of the patient’s face to alter the underlying structure to enhance the shape of specific elements of the chin, cheek, or lower jaw.
Dr Behnaz Yazdanfar saysDuring the procedure for a chin implant, the surgeon chooses the applicable shape and size for the implant to improve the patient’s face and inserts it into a pocket over the front of the mandible. The small incision is made following the lower lower lip to make the pocket and the implant is tucked insideinside the mouth or in the soft tissue just underneath the chin.
For a cheek implantation surgical procedure an incision will be cut either behind the patient’s top lip or the bottom eyelid. A pocket is then created and the implant is enclosed.
A lower-jaw implant procedure requires internal incisions to be cut on either side of the lower lip to accommodate access for establishing a pocket into which the lower-jaw implant can be introduced.
The severity and duration of discomfort and swelling may vary, particularly if another cosmetic surgery procedure was accomplished in conjunction.
