Gastric Banding is the placement of a gastric band around the stomach. According to Dr Behnaz Yazdanfar, Gastric banding is normally done with a laproscope. Gastric banding helps the patient to attain longer lasting weight loss by restricting the portion of food that that can be: Taken in at any one time, restricting the craving for food, and slowing digestion.
The band separates the stomach into a limited upper pouch above the band and a bigger zone below the band, Dr Yazdanfar. This compact division restricts the quantity of food that a patient can eat at any one sitting, and will cause a feeling of fullness upon after consuming just a little volume of food.
Regulating the degree of the passage (stoma) between the two portions of the stomach changes the volume of food that is moved from the upper to the lower cavity of the stomach by Dr Behnaz Yazdanfar.
