Otoplasty is a cosmetic surgical procedure used to adjust the form or size of the ear. The most common type of otoplasty is frequently named “ear pinning” Dr Behnaz. When the ears are sticking out too far from the head “ear pinning” is performed to make the ears sit closer to the head. The general opinion is that it is better if the patient is younger. Aslong as the ears are fully grown the surgical operation can be completed. Routinely, the ears have developed as much as they are going to by the age of four. The cartilage of young peoples’ ears is more pliable and a better result is achieved with the procedure. Otoplasty is performed on older patients also, but it is more difficult to form the cartilage in older patients’ ears.
Dr Behnaz Yazdanfar says “Ear pinning” is usually performed making use of a local anesthetic along with sedation. The surgeon makes an incision in the fold behind the ear. The surgeon will then excise skin and cartilage to fashion the desired result and close the incisions with stitches. Usually regular activities can be continued a week when the stitches can be taken out by Dr Yazdanfar, and particular care must be observed for about about a month while healing continues.
