Facial implants are prosthetic devices introduced under the skin of the face to alter the underlying structure to enhance the shape of specific elements of the chin, cheek, or lower jaw.
Dr Behnaz Yazdanfar says thatDuring the procedure for a chin implant, the surgeon chooses the best size and shape for the implant to enhance the patient’s features and tucks it into a pocket over the anterior of the jawbone. The small incision is cut following the bottom lower lip to make the pocket and the implant is enclosed withininside the mouth or in the soft tissue just underneath the chin area.
For a cheek implantation procedure an incision will be made either inside the patient’s upper lip or the lower eyelid. A pouch is made and an implant is tucked inside.
A lower-jaw implantation procedure requires internal incisions to be made on either side of the lower lip to furnish entry for making a cavity into which the implant can be placed.
The severity and duration of swelling and discomfort may vary, especially if a second procedure of cosmetic surgery was performed concurrently.
