Otoplasty is a cosmetic surgery procedure used to modify the shape or size of the ear. The most frequently performed type of otoplasty is often referred to as “ear pinning” Dr Yazdanfar. When the ears are sticking out too great a distance from the head “ear pinning” is performed to make them sit nearer to the head. The general opinion is that the younger a patient is the better. Solong as the ears are fully formed the surgical procedure can be performed. Commonly, the ears have developed as much as they are going to by the age of four. The cartilage of younger patients’ ears is more moldable and a superior result is achieved with the surgical procedure. Otoplasty is implemented on older patients also, but it is more difficult to sculpt the cartilage in more mature patients’ ears.
Dr B Yazdanfar says “Ear pinning” is commonly performed using a local anesthetic along with a sedative. The surgeon makes an incision in the crease behind the ear. The surgeon will then excise skin and cartilage to fabricate the desired effect and close the incisions with stitches. Commonly common activities can be restored one week when the stitches can be removed by Dr Yazdanfar, and special care must be observed for the space of about a month while healing continues.
