Liposuctionis a surgical procedure
for removing fat under the skin.

Tumescent liposuction utilizes a compound containing a local anaesthetic and epinephrine injected under the skin in the locality that will be operated on. The local anaesthetic anesthetizes the area so the patient does not encounter discomfort from the operation, and the epinephrine makes blood vessels and capillaries in the spot to constrict, which also arrests too much blood loss. The constricted blood vessels help to hold the local anaesthetic in the spot of the operation during recuperation, so powerful narcotic pain relievers are not usually required.
